Building a home server and pushing it out to the web…

Using advice found here:

https://getgrav.org/blog/macos-sierra-apache-multiple-php-versions

I have fully functional Apache site up and running and PHP with switcher so that I can run 5.5, 5.6, 7.0, and 7.1 flavors.  Currently WordPress and Jetpack only like 5.6, so that is where we will live for now.

I had some trouble with Jetpack, but advice found here and some tinkering with the php.ini got me sorted.

I do love “brew” for keeping the apache updated.  Also takes care of mysql installation.  I’m running on MacPro and seems to offer no drag.

I successfully got no-IP up and running and connected to router, with channeling of web traffic through the ADSL router into my desktop.  Other than some shifting tides of IP addresses both internally and externally, all seems functioning well.

Now up for installing Sentrifugo HR system into more of a production environment.  😉

  1. Follow-up – having fits with an my install of mysql that keep emerging. And the recent mariadb update to v19 caused some problems with leftover files. But, all fixed now. I’m not sure that restarting is working correctly. I’ve had to restart apache and mysql on a couple of occasions.

Also, my router lost the internal IP addresses, so the Dynamic DNS was not working. That now seems fixed and static.

  2. Have got things pretty stable now. Had to get my No-IP Dynamic Updater running. Would like this to be automatic, so may look at the daemon approach. But, generally have everything up and running now.

  3. 10.12.5 Sierra update took my site down again. Had to reinstall Apache and check configuration. Frustrating.
